Having executive networking groups (like the NETSHARE forums) to share ideas and strategies is incredibly revitalizing. I particularly get a lot of insights from The Alliance of Chief Executives, my CEO network group. They help keep me focused and creative.
As we are coming to the end of 2008, our group reviews their goals for the year, and assesses new goals for the year ahead – our new year’s resolutions, if you prefer. Many of these goals are relevant for any manager, and can be applied to job seekers as well.
The following snippets were pooled from past goals of several groups. Consider adopting some of these for your own New Year’s resolutions:
- Go with your gut.
- Focus and delegate.
- Don’t take long-standing clients for granted.
- Maintain your business relationships.
- Use principled negotiation.
- Remember that misalignment of vision creates a slow down.
- Over communicate to your team.
- Use the principals of negotiation – offer choices.
- Educate others about your expertise and what you have to offer.
- Remember that profitability is more important than gross revenue.
- Get focused and maintain focus.
- Stay focused on your customer perspective.
- Fire early (an especially painful lesson for many managers).
- Be fallible.
- Remember it’s easier to stay out of trouble than get out of trouble.
- The faster life’s pace, the more important it is to slow down.
- Don’t wait too long to pursue your core beliefs.
- Live life first.
Here’s wishing you a prosperous and peaceful 2009.
